When the Light Fades, Here’s How to Find Your Spark Again

We’re turning back our clocks, November is knocking on the door, and daylight is becoming a rare luxury. Getting up in the morning can feel tough, and leaving work in the afternoon darkness doesn’t make it easier.
It’s the perfect season to practise hygge — light the candles, savour a hot drink, and enjoy the comfort of small moments. Yet even with cozy rituals, many of us feel our energy fade this time of year. The passion quiets down, and what used to excite us can start to feel like a routine.
Feeling stuck isn’t a sign of failure — it’s an invitation. It’s life’s way of telling us something important: it’s time to pause, reflect, and realign.
In my coaching practice, I often meet leaders in transition — between roles, priorities, or stages of life, who describe feeling flat despite having achieved so much. One client recently told me, “I don’t feel lost — just dimmed.” That phrase stayed with me. Because what’s often missing isn’t ambition, but alignment. When our work no longer connects with our strengths, values, or purpose, motivation naturally fades.
The good news? You can reignite it.
Here are three reflective questions to help you reconnect with what truly drives you:
1️⃣ What matters most to me right now, and does my current work reflect that?
Our values evolve as we do. Reconnecting with what feels meaningful today (not what used to) can reveal the gap between what you do and what you believe in.
2️⃣ When do I feel most alive in my work?
Think about moments when time disappeared because you were fully engaged — in flow. These moments often point toward your strengths and purpose, the things that give you energy rather than drain it.
3️⃣ What would I do differently if I trusted that clarity will come?
We often rush to “fix” a stuck feeling. Instead, allow space for reflection. Motivation returns when we slow down long enough to listen to ourselves.
If you’re feeling off-track, remember: it’s not about pushing harder, but realigning deeper. Motivation flows naturally when your actions, values, and purpose are in sync.
This is at the heart of my work with leaders in transition, helping them rediscover what they do best and why it matters. Once that awareness returns, everything else starts to move again.
✨ Perhaps this is your moment to pause and realign.
If this resonates with you, I’d love to support you through a coaching conversation to help you rediscover your spark and move forward with renewed clarity and purpose.
